This monastery was founded in 1813 by thirteen monks who arrived on the Island from Mount Athos in north-eastern Greece.
The famous monastery is located at Mount Eros Source, 500 meters above sea level and just 100 meters below the highest mountain peak of Hydra. The hike takes around an hour and is really worth the effort. Enjoy sweeping views over the hazy hills of the Peloponnese, gloriously lit at sunrise or sunset.
Be sure to leave early in the morning because of the high temperatures in the summer months. In the courtyard of the monastery, a cute little shop sells self-made products like honey, soap and embroideries.
